Kythe

Kythe is an open-source framework from Google for building language-agnostic code indexing and cross-referencing tools — the infrastructure behind features like 'find all references' or 'go to definition' that work correctly across a large, multi-language codebase.

Rather than building custom static analysis per language, Kythe defines a common schema for representing code semantics (symbols, references, types) that different language extractors feed into, letting one set of tools (search, navigation, documentation generation) work across all indexed languages.

Used primarily by teams building internal code-search or code-intelligence tooling for a large monorepo, rather than as an end-user-facing product itself.
