About Vertical Pod Autoscaler
Vertical Pod Autoscaler (VPA) is a Kubernetes component that automatically adjusts the CPU and memory resource requests/limits of running pods based on observed actual usage, rather than requiring manual tuning.
Where Horizontal Pod Autoscaler adds more pod replicas under load, VPA instead resizes the resources allocated to existing pods — correcting the common problem of pods requesting far more (or less) CPU/memory than they actually use, which wastes cluster capacity or causes throttling/OOM kills.
Often run in 'recommendation-only' mode initially (suggesting values without applying them) before enabling automatic updates, since VPA-triggered resizes require a pod restart.
